Curcumin Inhibits AP-1 Signaling.

AP-1 is one of the major genetic gene regulatory factors in the body. It activates genes involved in inflammation, cancer, arthritis and many other biochemical pathways.

Anti-inflammatory steroids like hydrocortisone bind their receptors, and these now activated receptors form inhibitory complexes with AP-1. Now we know that curcumin behaves in a similar way.

I am only citing one reference on curcumin's ability to inhibit AP-1 signaling, but dozens of studies have been published on this topic. Curcumin apparently inhibits AP-1 signaling in numerous different ways.

In subsequent Blog essays, I will discuss in detail how AP-1 promotes various disease pathways. The next Blog essay will discuss the role of AP-1 in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis.

Stay tuned...
